Real Human Atlas and Axis with Hardware

This real human atlas and axis specimen features the first two cervical vertebrae (C1 and C2), prepared as an articulated anatomical teaching specimen. The atlas retains its characteristic ring-shaped structure, while the axis displays the odontoid process (dens), demonstrating the unique rotational articulation of the upper cervical spine.

Mounted hardware allows the relationship between the vertebrae to be examined in detail, making this specimen especially useful for anatomy instruction, osteological study, chiropractic education, and medical reference collections. Natural bone texture and anatomical landmarks remain clearly visible throughout the specimen.

We believe education is the greatest gift osteology can share and that every human specimen can contribute to the advancement of science. These specimens are provided to us by retired physicians, medical researchers, dental professionals, and former university medical programs. We also work with accredited donor programs. A small sample - often antiques that simply do not qualify for medical/research grade usage - are made available to osteology enthusiasts worldwide so that they may continue to educate and inform.
Specifications:
  • Presents with hardware visible from two points, evidence of healing
  • Presents with evidence of possible pathology
  • Measurements taken while assembled
  • Atlas and Axis Length 5.5 cm (2.2 in)
  • Atlas and Axis Width 8.5 cm (3.3 in)
  • Atlas and Axis Height 4.4 cm (1.7 in)
