The Caribbean flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber), also known as the American flamingo, is found throughout the Caribbean, including the Bahamas, the West Indies, the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, northern South America, the Galápagos Islands, and occasionally along the southern coast of the United States.

The Caribbean flamingo stands around 4 feet tall and has a wingspan of nearly 5 feet. Flamingos use their specialized beaks to filter small invertebrates, algae, and microorganisms from the water. Their distinctive pink coloration is largely due to pigments in their diet.
